Privacy at Northlight
The short version: Northlight has no accounts, no tracking, and no analytics, and it collects no personal data. Your library, looks, and calibrations are yours — stored on your device and synced through your own iCloud. This page spells out the details.
The short version
Northlight is a planning instrument, not a service. It doesn't sign you in, doesn't phone home, and doesn't include any third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking SDKs. There is no Northlight server holding your data.
Data collected by the app: none. This is declared in the app's privacy manifest, which lists no tracking and no collected data types — the same information shown on the App Store privacy label.
The app
Everything you create — fixtures, cameras, modifiers, bounce surfaces, looks, and measurements — lives on your device and, if you use it, in your own iCloud account. Northlight has no visibility into any of it.
- No account, no sign-in. There is nothing to register and no credentials to store.
- No analytics or tracking. The app contains no usage analytics, crash-reporting SDKs, advertising identifiers, or tracking of any kind.
- Preferences stay on the device. Per-device settings — units, display toggles, your active look, the selected camera profile — are kept in the system's standard preferences store, readable only by the app. They are never transmitted.
- No third-party SDKs receive your data, because there are none.
Camera & calibration
The Measure tab uses your device camera to read the rendered color of a lit grey card, so a fixture's real color can replace its box specification.
Camera frames are processed entirely on your device. Northlight reads color from the live frames to compute a measurement — no photo or video is uploaded, transmitted, or saved to your photo library. Only the resulting color measurement (a few numbers) is stored, against the fixture you calibrated.
The camera permission exists solely for this on-device metering. If you never open the Measure tab, the camera is never used.
iCloud sync
If iCloud is enabled, your library and looks sync across your iPhone, iPad, and Mac so a change on one shows up on the others. This uses your own iCloud account through Apple's iCloud framework.
- Your data is stored in your personal iCloud container, under your Apple Account.
- The developer has no access to your iCloud data and operates no server that receives it.
- This syncing is governed by Apple's Privacy Policy and your iCloud settings, which you control.
You can turn iCloud sync off, in which case everything stays local to each device.
This website
The Northlight website is intentionally plain. It sets no cookies, runs no analytics or advertising trackers, and loads no third-party scripts that profile you.
Like virtually all web hosting, the server may keep standard access logs — such as your IP address, the time of the request, and the page requested — for security and reliability. These logs are not used to build a profile of you, are not sold, and are not combined with anything from the app.
The contact form
If you use the contact form, the name, email address, and message you enter are emailed to Northlight support so we can read and reply to you.
- Your message is used only to respond to your enquiry.
- It is not stored in a database on this site, sold, or used for marketing.
- It is not added to any mailing list — replying to you is the only purpose.
You can also just email support@northlight.rackforms.com directly if you'd rather not use the form.
Your choices
Because Northlight doesn't collect personal data, there is very little held anywhere to request or delete:
- Your app data is on your devices and in your iCloud — you can view, edit, or delete it at any time, right in the app or via your iCloud settings.
- A message you sent us lives only in our support email. Ask us and we'll delete it.
Northlight is not directed to children and does not knowingly collect information from anyone, of any age.
Changes & contact
If this policy changes, the date below will be updated and the revised page will be posted here. Material changes to how information is handled will be described plainly.
